Super Tackle for All the Small Ones ….

2012 February 16
by Team Mustad Norway

A pretty Gurnard

Here’s my favourite tackle for all the smaller species that feed close to the bottom.

This tackle has given me a number of top positions in championships and it has really passed the test when it comes to landing the highest number of species in the shortest possible time. read more…

Feathers, Fur and Steel…

2012 February 7
by Barry Ord Clarke

Mustad has launched Mustad Scandinavian Open on Face Book.

The new MSO facebook page will be  focusing on fly tying & materials for fly-tyers by fly-tyers.  Fly tying for many is a hobby,  for others it´s a means of filling their fly box with fine tuned and well tested patterns, that would be otherwise unavailable. For most of us who are fans of MSO, it’s more of a passion, and for some, even a way of life… read more…

Sjöfiskehaandboka

2012 February 6
by Team Mustad Norway

For Scandinavian readers – article in Norwegian:

Boken til Team Mustad medlem Asgeir Alvestad har vært en stor suksess. Sjøfiskehåndboka, som den heter, kom i våres og er nær sagt utsolgt. Noen eksemplarer igjen skulle det imidlertid finnes i bokhandler, på nett, eller i fiskebutikker. Et nytt opplag forventes i 2012 fra Tun Forlag. read more…

Norwegian Hooks, Norwegian Pine Poppers and a Norwegian Captain!

2011 December 31
by Capt.Alex

With a new boat and upcoming season, we hoped to continue the stunning GT fishing we had last season.

Peter Pan flying home!

My wood lathe has been quite busy lately and my suitcase was full of different poppers made out of pine and rigged with 400 Ib stainless steel wire with a lead ball in the rear and most important, new Mustad O’ Shaughnessy 4XHeavy trebles.

After last season I decided what kind of shape the poppers should have to make the most effective sound and make a big messy splash on the surface. read more…

Dubbing in a straw …

A square out arranged tying table – never accomplished – but so what – remember – only a genius can see through the chaos ….

A nice method of organizing dubbing self-made or Shop-bought is simply to stuff it into clear drinking straws. (thanks to Mike Connor for that tip) This has the great advantage of being extremely handy. You can hold your dubbing supply in the thread hand (right hand for right hand tiers).

Also touch dubbing is very easy. Blending various colours becomes a piece of cake.

No more mess on the table ….. OK … dream on … anyway .. I found it being a nice thing.

Tight lines,

We have had the pleasure of visiting one of the most beautiful places  in northern Norway. Based in one of the many scenic fisherman’s cabins (Norwegian: “RORBU”), we had the best base for exploring the fishing opportunities of the area. read more…

Keel Crab

2011 September 11
by Barry Ord Clarke

Just about no matter what salt water species of fish is your target, crabs are always on the menu, all year round. When tying crab patterns the first thing to consider is the basic shape of the crab, two large protruding claws and a flat oval shaped body. There is a choice to be made: If you would like to fish your crab swimming or as a bottom crawler? read more…

Tying your own leaders

2011 May 15
by Thomas Zuellich
tz_leader_chart

Generally speaking (in fishing-lingo that is) a leader is the piece of line between the hook and the main line. This piece of line is normally somewhat smaller in diameter than the main line. Various sorts come into play, level line monofilament for bait fishing, wire (for pike and the like), a shock leader for fishing in the sea – and the so-called tapered leader for angling with the fly. read more…

Town Fishing … around Oslo

2011 April 25
by Thomas Zuellich

Spring. Spring is a word that means a lot to us here in the north. The winter is long, dark and cold. That alone is not the main issue. With 0°C (273.15K, 32°F) water goes into its solid state … ice. You can´t flyfish on ice. As the lakes around here in Norway do freeze over, we flyfishers have to wait all winter for the big news – “Spring is here ….. the ice is gone”. Believe me, it´s a big thing. read more…
